I believe that a positive learning environment can be created by a teacher if they actively motivate students and show their own passion for the subject they teach. People have a “natural eagerness” to learn, and a teacher can make any subject interesting for their pupils if they teach it the right way. As an educator, my goal is to be a positive influence in all of my students lives. I actively build relationships with my students and understand what makes each and every one of them unique. By being a positive factor in my students’ day, I can guide them to be successful, innovative learners.
Students who take my course will explore new ways to express their identity through new art skills. Art will be seen as creative and safe way for students to explore their personal interests and values. Students will be able to collaborate and learn from others in my classroom. Doing this will guide my students towards positive moral beliefs that will benefit them in the real world outside of my classroom. Student engagement is critical for a successful lesson; members of my small classroom community will be treated as equals and will be able to express their own learning goals in art at the beginning of my course. Teaching is a balance of both learning and instructing; I am constantly learning and reflecting on my own teaching methods; I often find myself finding new ways to improve my own instruction through my students. I take pride in my respect for students and understand that each and every one of them comes from different backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences. No two are alike and it is my job to get to know each and every one of them so that I understand how to teach their individual learning style. A large theme that runs through my art class will be that everyone has potential to create reflective and meaningful art. The misconception that only certain skilled people can create meaningful art will be erased in my classroom; all different art forms and styles will be explored and highly valued. My goal is for every one of my students to have a positive experience in my class. I make my classroom comfortable for my different learners by setting up a positive classroom where no pupil will feel neglected or out of place. A successful teacher is someone who genuinely cares about the different individuals in their classroom and is interested in forming strong, personal and professional relationships with every member in the classroom. |
